Homework: none
Today we completed a KWL chart and watched a Bill Nye video about comets and meteors. Then students used reading comprehension skills to answer questions about comets, asteroids, and meteors.
Homework: none We finished the astronomy lab today and watched some Brain Pop clips on most of the planets in our solar system.
Homework: none Happy early release day! Today we continued working on the astronomy lab.
Homework: none Today we began our astronomy hands on activity lab. We will continue the stations tomorrow.
Homework: none Today we worked on the outer planets in our planet project illustrated children's book. Some students struggled getting focused after the pep rally so many have to finish it for homework.
Homework: finish illustrated children's book planet project Today we watched a Brain Pop video on Pluto, then took the information that students collected from various articles and the Pluto Files movie and wrote an argumentative piece about Pluto's planetary status. When students finished this, they then continued working on their planet project (the illustrated children's book).
Homework: none ** Planet project will be due on Tuesday (8/28) I got my sound working! Woohoo! So we put the planet project on hold for today so that we could finish up discussing Pluto. We finished watching Pluto Files by NOVA while students took notes on both evidence of why Pluto should AND should not be a planet. They then read the last article on this topic and took notes on that as well.
Homework: finish reading and taking notes on the last Pluto article (each square of your Pluto notes page should have something in it) Today we had to punt because I couldn't get my sound to work on my projector! The kids were very flexible as we quickly made booklets (with too many pages- that's my fault) for them to work on their solar system children's book project. Today's goal was to complete all of the inner planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. Tomorrow we will hopefully have sound up-and-running so we can finish our Pluto work and then have time to finish the project. We shall see!
Homework: finish all inner planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars) for the solar system illustrated children's book project (see handout distributed during class for instructions) Today we took the SLO test on the computer in order to set a baseline for measuring learning growth. The final SLO test score (taken at the end of the year) will be compared to the score from today's assessment; however, the grade from today's test will NOT go in the gradebook. After the test, students read some articles and filled in more of their chart providing evidence for and against Pluto being a planet.
Homework: finish reading the two articles from today about Pluto and be sure to have information from each article FOR and AGAINST Pluto being a planet in your chart Today we finished the notes on the outer planets. Then we began watching Pluto Files and collecting evidence FOR Pluto being a planet and AGAINST Pluto being a planet. Homework: none
